Córdoba

Cordoba is, historically, one of the richest provinces of Andalusia. 

In the city of Cordoba you are immediately aware of its’ rich historical past as you wander through the Jewish Quarter or the famous Moorish Mezquita mosque, the largest on the continent, or you can visit the majestic Roman bridge which spans the river Guadalquivir.

On a visit to the Alcazar and its gardens, with huge ponds, you can imagine yourself to be in the seventeenth century. Cordoba was the capital of Moorish Spain. At 8 km from Cordoba the ruins of the palace city of “Medina Azahara” give a good impression of the richness of this culture.

The most beautiful expressions of Andalusian Baroque can be encountered in the towns of “Cabra” and “Priego de Córdoba”.
Cordoba has a wonderful climate for 9 months of the year. Summer temperatures can be very high. If you like wine and sherry, it is nice to follow the wine route “Montilla Moriles”.

Lately the so calle vias verdes, the old railways are adapted to be used by bikes. This is also a nice way to discover the natural park Subbetica.

Also remember to taste “Salmorejo”. A cold soup, less well known than it’s more famous sister “Gazpacho”.

Cordoba is connected with Seville, Madrid and Malaga by a high speed train called AVE.
