Almeria is the most easterly province of Andalucia

Almeria is known for its beautiful beaches such as the “Playa de Monsul” and the “Playa de los Genoveses” near San Jose in the “Cabo de Gata” Natural Park. Also this provinve is famous because of containing the only desert in Europe, the “Desierto de Tabernas” near Tabernas. Between the fifties and seventies, they filmed many spaghetti westerns here, because of its’ resemblance to the landscape of the Wild West of America.

The eastern part of the Sierra Nevada is part of the Almería province. Almeria has a large port and the old Alcazaba, the city castle, towers above the city. Almería is the driest province of Spain with less than 200mm annual rainfall and the area with the most sunshine, well over 3000 hours per year. The average annual temperature is 18.7 degrees.
